Rest Chair
In collaboration with Studio Maximilian Beck
The chair emerges from a collaboration between Studio Maximilian Beck, working with experimental large-scale glass casting, and Obscure Objects, specializing in metal fabrication. Combining laser-cut stainless steel with imperfect, moulded glass, the piece reflects a shared commitment to self taught experimental craft. Exchange and learning between both practices shaped the process, embracing material limitations as creative potential.
A bold, ice-like glass seat rests on a minimal stainless steel frame. Visible screws articulate the steel structure, while the glass is held primarily by its own weight, creating a precise tension between solidity and lightness. The work situates itself between design and sculpture, foregrounding process, material honesty, and structural clarity.
All edges and corners are carefully chamfered by hand. Each chair is handcrafted and made to order in Germany.
